Microneedling

Micro-needling is a procedure used to treat various skin conditions such as wrinkles, scars, hyperpigmentation, cellulite stretch marks, and hair loss.  Through the use of an approved micro-needling device (equipped with a sterile, single use cartridge), microscopic channels are created in the skin. This stimulates circulation as well as collagen and elastin production in the skin.  The process is nearly painless, with a quick recovery time.  To enhance overall results, micro-needling may be combined with topical gels, or serums.

Frequently Asked questions

At The Longevity Lab, one of our naturopathic doctors, Dr. Caitlin Batting, who is trained and experienced in micro needling will be performing this treatment.

Microneedling is an excellent treatment for anyone who wants to improve the appearance of wrinkles, scars, and other skin concerns. The primary benefit of microneedling is to stimulate collagen growth, which has several useful benefits that help make the skin’s appearance more even, youthful, and vibrant.

Generally, patients notice tightening, and a more even tone to their skin, a week or two after their first session. For areas with deeper imperfections, results can be subtler, and additional treatments are usually required. Since microneedling stimulates new collagen and elastin production, these results will continue to build for up to 6 months. The frequency of treatments depends upon the desired effect and needle length used. Our naturopathic doctor will work with you to design a treatment plan specifically for your skin.

You will notice that the skin appears bright and red following your session. For this reason, we do not recommend planning any significant events right after your appointment. Downtime varies from person to person, but generally, you may experience mild redness and mild swelling for about 24 hours after your microneedling treatment. We recommend reduced sun exposure (as the treatment increases light sensitivity) and no makeup for a minimum of 24 hours following.

To help manage the discomfort level, a topical numbing cream is applied to the treatment area prior to the procedure. This makes the treatment very manageable with most patients reporting very little pain or discomfort.
